How It Began — Rob's Story
In 2014, my email had become a battlefield I was losing. What started as 20-30 legitimate emails per day had exploded into an avalanche of 200+ messages from complete strangers — spam, scams, and marketers who'd somehow acquired my address from sources I'd never authorized. The breaking point came when I realized I was spending more time deleting emails than reading the ones that actually mattered.
Then came the email address arms race. Every website, every app, every online service demanded my email just to browse their content. Sign up to read an article. Enter your email to download a PDF. Share your address to see pricing. Each interaction felt like handing over the keys to my digital life, knowing full well these companies would sell, share, or lose my information to the highest bidder — or the most persistent hacker.
That's when the lightbulb went off: What if I could give out my email address without actually giving it away?
Over the next several years, I obsessed over designing what would become eMayl. The original tagline captured my frustration perfectly: "You may have my email address, but on my terms." I called it "permissive email management" — a system where I could create unique email aliases (now called an eMaylias™) for every person, service, or company that wanted to contact me.
But here's where it got powerful: I could track exactly how each unique address propagated across the internet. When spam started arriving at the address I'd given to a specific app or website, I knew exactly who had betrayed my trust. More importantly, I could shut off that pipeline instantly — no more playing whack-a-mole with unsubscribe links that only confirmed my address was active.
By 2024, I couldn't wait any longer. Yes, a few competitors had emerged, but they were treating email management like a filing system, helping you organize the chaos rather than preventing it. They missed the fundamental issue: it's not about managing unwanted email, it's about stopping it at the source and holding bad actors accountable. When someone sells your eMaylias to spammers, you have the evidence to report them to spam tracking services or authorities for CAN-SPAM violations.
But control alone wasn't enough. We built advanced security features that scan every incoming email for phishing attempts, address spoofing, malware, and viruses before they ever reach your inbox. Because true control isn't just about controlling who contacts you — it's about ensuring that contact is safe.
eMayl isn't just about email management; it's about taking back control. It's the difference between frantically bailing water from a sinking boat and simply plugging the holes.
